WPS Series Large Through-Bore Self-Centering Welding Chuck
High Clamping Force, Automatic Centering and Large Through-Bore Design
The WPS Series Large Through-Bore Self-Centering Welding Chuck is designed for secure and efficient workpiece clamping in welding and cutting applications.
The chuck uses a bevel gear and scroll mechanism to drive the jaws simultaneously in the radial direction, automatically centering the workpiece during clamping.
Combining the advantages of lightweight welding chucks and machine-tool chucks, the WPS Series offers high self-centering accuracy, high clamping force, compact construction and flexible operation.
Its reduced thickness and weight help lower the workpiece center distance and improve the effective load capability of the welding equipment. The quick self-centering design also helps reduce setup time in repetitive welding and cutting operations.
Available Sizes: WPS600 – WPS1250
Maximum Clamping Range: Up to Ø1250 mm
Maximum Clamping Force: Up to 100 kN
Custom Jaw Configurations Available
WPS Series Manual Welding Chuck Features
Large Through-Bore Design
The large central opening makes the WPS Series suitable for large-diameter pipes, cylinders and other workpieces requiring open access through the chuck.
Automatic Self-Centering
The bevel gear and scroll mechanism moves the jaws simultaneously, allowing the workpiece to be automatically centered during clamping.
High Clamping Force
Depending on the model, maximum clamping force ranges from 65 kN to 100 kN, making the series suitable for demanding workholding applications.
Compact & Lightweight Structure
The chuck is designed with reduced overall thickness and weight. According to the product catalogue, the overall thickness and weight are reduced by approximately 50%, helping reduce the workpiece center distance when installed on welding equipment.
Wide Clamping Range
Seven standard sizes are available, with standard jaw clamping ranges extending up to Ø1250 mm.
Custom Jaw Options
Extended jaws can be supplied to increase the clamping range. Custom 4-jaw, 6-jaw and irregular multi-jaw configurations are also available.

Dimensions in mm.
These dimensions are provided for model selection. The catalogue specifically states that actual dimensions should be confirmed against the order drawing before manufacture or installation.
Standard, Reversed & Custom Jaws
- Standard Jaws
Standard jaw configurations provide the primary clamping range for pipes, cylinders and other round workpieces.
Depending on the selected WPS model, the standard jaw range covers workpieces from Ø100 mm up to Ø1250 mm. - Reversed Jaws
The jaw configuration can accommodate larger workpiece diameters using the reversed-jaw clamping range specified for each model. - Extended Jaws
Custom extended jaws can be manufactured when a larger clamping range is required.
The actual allowable load should be evaluated when using extended jaws because the catalogue notes that clamping/load capability decreases when the workpiece clamping position extends beyond the chuck body.
Custom Jaw Configurations
WPS chucks are not limited to a standard three-jaw configuration.
Depending on the workpiece and application, custom configurations can include:
- 3-Jaw Self-Centering Chuck
- 4-Jaw Chuck
- 6-Jaw Chuck
- Irregular Multi-Jaw Chuck
- Extended Jaw Configuration
The catalogue explicitly identifies extended jaws, four-jaw, six-jaw and irregular multi-jaw chucks as available custom configurations.
Typical Applications
- Welding Positioners
The WPS chuck can be integrated with suitable welding positioning equipment to clamp and center workpieces during welding or cutting. - Pipe & Cylinder Fabrication
The large through-bore configuration is suitable for holding large round workpieces such as pipes and cylindrical components. - Welding & Cutting
Self-centering operation reduces workpiece setup and alignment time, making the series suitable for repetitive welding and cutting production. - Large Workpiece Positioning
Larger models such as WPS900, WPS960, WPS1100 and WPS1250 provide higher clamping forces and larger clamping ranges for large workpieces.
How to Select a WPS Welding Chuck
1. Workpiece Diameter
Determine the minimum and maximum diameter of the workpiece.
For example:
Ø500 mm workpiece → WPS600 or larger models may provide the required diameter range.
2. Required Clamping Force
Select the chuck according to the workpiece and required holding conditions. Available WPS models provide maximum specified clamping forces from 65 to 100 kN.
3. Workpiece Geometry
Specify whether the workpiece is a pipe, cylinder or other component and identify the required clamping position.
4. Jaw Configuration
Specify whether standard, reversed, extended or custom jaws are required.
5. Mounting Interface
Check the chuck mounting dimensions against the welding positioner or other equipment.
6. Installation Drawing
Final mounting and dimensional requirements should be confirmed using the approved order drawing.
