K13 Series 6-Jaw Welding Chuck

Heavy-Duty 6-Jaw Self-Centering Chuck for Large Workpieces

The K13 Series 6-Jaw Welding Chuck is a heavy-duty self-centering chuck designed for secure and stable clamping of large round workpieces in welding, cutting and fabrication applications.

The synchronized chuck mechanism moves all six jaws simultaneously, automatically centering the workpiece during clamping.

With six-point workpiece contact, high rigidity, high clamping force and large through-hole capacity, the K13 Series is particularly suitable for large pipes, cylinders and other round components requiring additional support around the workpiece.

K13 6-Jaw Self-Centering Design Manual Welding Chuck Features

6-Jaw Self-Centering Design

Six jaws move simultaneously to automatically center and clamp the workpiece.

The six-jaw configuration provides more contact points around a round workpiece than conventional 3-jaw and 4-jaw configurations, making it suitable for applications where additional circumferential support is desirable.

Six-Point Workpiece Support

The six-jaw arrangement distributes contact around more points on the workpiece circumference.

This can be useful when holding large pipes, cylinders and other round fabricated components, depending on workpiece geometry and wall thickness.

High Clamping Force

The K13 Series provides maximum specified clamping forces from 60 kN to 120 kN, depending on model.

The K13 1500 provides the highest specified clamping force in the series at 120 kN.

Large Through-Hole Design

The large center opening provides clearance for pipes, cylinders and other long or large-diameter components.

Heavy-Duty Construction

High rigidity and large chuck sizes make the K13 Series suitable for demanding workholding applications in welding and fabrication.

Wide Size Range

Seven standard sizes are available from K13 400 through K13 1500, with clamping ranges extending up to Ø1500 mm.

Positive Jaw & Reverse Jaw Clamping

Positive Jaw Clamping

The positive jaw configuration provides the standard clamping range for each K13 model.

For example:

  • K13 1000
    Positive Jaw Range: Ø200–1000 mm
  • K13 1500
    Positive Jaw Range: Ø400–1500 mm

Reverse Jaw Clamping

The jaws can be reversed to accommodate different workpiece diameter ranges.

For example:

  • K13 1200
    Reverse Jaw Range: Ø400–1200 mm
  • K13 1500
    Reverse Jaw Range: Ø500–1500 mm

The appropriate jaw position should be selected according to the actual workpiece diameter and clamping location.

Why Choose a 6-Jaw Welding Chuck?

  • More Contact Points
A 6-jaw chuck provides six contact points around the workpiece circumference, compared with three on the K11 and four on the K12.
This provides additional workpiece support for suitable round components.
  • Better Support for Large Cylindrical Workpieces
The six-jaw arrangement is particularly useful for applications involving large pipes, cylinders and circular fabricated components where additional circumferential support is required.
  • Suitable for Thin-Wall Workpieces
For appropriate applications, distributing contact over six jaws can reduce the load concentrated at each individual jaw compared with using fewer contact points.
However, actual workpiece deformation depends on factors such as wall thickness, material, diameter, jaw design and applied clamping force, so the chuck should be selected according to the actual workpiece.

Typical Applications

  • Large Pipe Welding
The six-jaw configuration provides multiple contact points around large pipes during welding and positioning operations.
  • Cylinder Fabrication
Suitable for holding cylindrical workpieces requiring additional circumferential support.
  • Welding Positioners
K13 chucks can be mounted on compatible welding positioners for workpiece clamping and rotational positioning.
  • Thin-Wall Cylindrical Components
For suitable workpieces, six-point contact can help distribute the clamping load over additional contact locations.
  • Heavy Fabrication
The combination of high rigidity, large chuck sizes and clamping forces up to 120 kN makes the K13 Series suitable for demanding fabrication workholding.
  • Welding & Cutting Equipment
The K13 Series can be integrated into welding and cutting systems requiring self-centering workpiece holding.

How to Select a K13 Welding Chuck

1. Workpiece Diameter
Confirm both the minimum and maximum outside diameter to be clamped.
2. Workpiece Wall Thickness
For pipes and cylinders, provide the wall thickness, particularly when workpiece deformation during clamping is a concern.
3. Workpiece Weight
Provide the total workpiece weight and dimensions.
4. Required Clamping Force
Select the chuck according to the actual workholding requirement rather than diameter alone.
5. Positive or Reverse Jaws
Determine the required jaw orientation according to the workpiece diameter and clamping location.
6. Equipment Interface
Confirm the mounting dimensions of the welding positioner, rotary table or other equipment.
7. Operating Position
For large or long workpieces, provide the operating orientation and center-of-gravity information where applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

The K13 Series is a 6-jaw self-centering welding chuck designed for clamping round workpieces in welding, positioning and fabrication applications.

Standard models include K13 400, K13 500, K13 630, K13 800, K13 1000, K13 1200 and K13 1500.

The largest model, K13 1500, provides a specified clamping range up to Ø1500 mm.

The K13 Series provides specified maximum clamping forces up to 120 kN, depending on model.

The primary difference is the number of jaws:

K11 — 3 jaws
K12 — 4 jaws
K13 — 6 jaws

K13 therefore provides more contact points around the workpiece circumference.

A six-jaw configuration provides additional contact points around the workpiece, which can help distribute clamping contact. Actual suitability depends on pipe diameter, wall thickness, material, jaw geometry and required clamping force.
