Compact Welding Positioner for Small Workpieces

The BWJ-10 combines rotation, tilting and workpiece holding in a compact welding workstation.

Instead of manually repositioning a small pipe or flange throughout the welding process, the operator can mount the workpiece on the rotary table, adjust the required tilt angle and set an appropriate rotation speed.

The table is driven by a 20 W DC speed-regulating motor, providing controlled rotation for small-part welding. The original configuration also includes a foot switch, control box, conductive carbon brush and emergency-stop function.

Key Features

10kg Compact Load Capacity

  • Designed for small welding components where a full-size industrial positioner is unnecessary.
  • Its compact footprint makes the BWJ-10 suitable for workbenches, welding shops, training facilities and small-component production.

Ø180 mm Precision Rotary Table

  • The positioner features a: Ø180 mm diameter × 9 mm thick worktable
  • The 9 mm steel table provides a stable mounting surface while keeping the complete positioner compact and portable.

Variable-Speed Rotation

  • The DC drive provides adjustable table rotation for different workpiece diameters and welding speeds.
  • Standard listed range: 2–20 rpm
  • The source product page also lists 1–10 rpm as another available speed configuration, so I recommend presenting this on MecBase as an optional speed range rather than mixing both values into one specification.

0–90° Tilting Worktable

  • The worktable can be tilted from: 0° to 90°
  • This allows the operator to change the orientation of the workpiece and place the weld joint in a more suitable welding position.
  • The original machine uses a self-locking tilting mechanism to hold the selected table angle.

Forward & Reverse Rotation

  • The BWJ-10 provides reversible rotation, allowing the operator to select the direction of workpiece movement according to the welding operation.
  • This is particularly useful when setting up circumferential welds and adapting the machine to different welding directions.

Foot Pedal Control

  • A foot switch allows the operator to control the positioner while keeping both hands available for welding and torch handling.
  • The machine can therefore be operated using the control panel or foot control depending on the welding setup.

Dedicated Welding Grounding

  • The positioner uses a conductive copper/carbon-brush arrangement to provide electrical continuity during welding.
  • The source specification lists:
  • Grounding Conductivity: 80 A, 100% duty cycle
  • This helps provide a dedicated current path rather than relying on bearings or rotating mechanical components to carry welding current.

Horizontal vs. Vertical Load Capacity

The allowable workpiece load changes according to the orientation of the rotary table.

Horizontal Table

Maximum rated load: 10 kg

When the table is horizontal, the workpiece load acts mainly toward the rotary table.

Vertical Table

Maximum rated load: 5 kg

When the table is tilted to the vertical position, the workpiece creates a greater bending moment on the table and drive assembly.

Therefore, positioner selection should consider not only:

Workpiece Weight

but also:

Workpiece Diameter + Center of Gravity + Fixture/Chuck Weight + Table Angle

Welding Chuck Options

Add a Chuck for Pipe & Flange Welding

The BWJ-10 can be equipped with a compact welding chuck for holding round workpieces.

The source configuration lists: Ø65 mm Chuck and Ø80 mm Chuck.

A chuck-equipped positioner is particularly useful for:

Small Pipes
Small Flanges
Round Fittings
Bushings
Cylindrical Components

A compact welding positioner allows the operator to:

  • Reduce Manual Repositioning
Keep the workpiece moving instead of repeatedly stopping to reposition it.
  • Maintain Controlled Rotation
Set a suitable rotation speed for the workpiece and welding process.
  • Improve Welding Access
Tilt the table to bring the joint into a more convenient position.
  • Keep Both Hands Available
Use the foot pedal to control rotation during welding.
  • Save Workshop Space
    The BWJ-10 measures only approximately 320 × 285 × 230 mm.
